The Free Methodist denomination gives the title of Elder to people who have gone through the ordination process and made a commitment to serve the church in pastoral ministry. There are often Elders that our PNW Conference appoints to a local church without serving as part of the staff. These pastors are a source of wisdom, counsel, and guidance and can perform the various sacraments of communion, baptism, marriage, and often lead in other areas around the church.
