James 2:15-17
Suppose a brother or sister is without clothes and daily food. If one of you says to him, “Go, I wish you well; keep warm and well fed,” but does nothing about his physical needs, what good is it? In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by ACTION, is dead.
Action teams are based on the principle outlined in James 2:15-17. When confronted with a need from a fellow brother or sister—Take Action to help.
Here’s how Action Teams work
Action Teams are organized into categories of service that range from making a meal for someone, to helping someone with yard work, to praying for an urgent request.
When you fill out an Action Team survey indicating which team you would like to be a part of, you join a list of volunteers from the church. When a need arises that is too big for an individual/family to handle, they may request the help of Compassion Ministries.
Depending on the need, Compassion Ministries will select the most appropriate Action Teams to mobilize. We will call down the list of team members to see who is available to help. When you are called, you can say “Yes” or “No” to any service request depending on your schedule. You will not be called for every request, as we like to rotate through the entire list of volunteers.
Each year, Compassion Ministries makes a church wide call to join Action Teams. Our hope, is to engage at least 80% of the youth and adults at Rainier Avenue Church in meeting the practical, material, and social needs of others.
At present, we are 75 volunteers away from achieving our goal!!!! Would you like to join the 50% currently on Action Teams?
